Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 521, HCA 1 -- COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMISSION

SPONSOR: Crowell (Cooper, 158)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on General Laws by a vote of 7 to 0.

This bill expands the membership of the Community Service
Commission to include the Lieutenant Governor.

HCA 1 -- Allows the Lieutenant Governor to appoint his or her
designee.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and
FY 2008.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that since every dollar counts, more
responsibilities need to be given to the Lieutenant Governor.
Already being an advocate for the elderly, the Lieutenant
Governor is a natural fit with the Community Service Commission.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Crowell.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
